PLAN OF ACTION OF THE BSEC WORKING GROUP ON COOPERATION IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
(1 July 2024 – 30 June 2026)
COUNTRY-COORDINATOR: THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA
Guided by the goals outlined in the BSEC Economic Agenda “Towards a sustainable future of the wider Black Sea area” adopted by the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the BSEC Countries (online, December 15, 2023), above all with Goal 11 Strengthening Regional Cooperation in Scientific Research and Technology, and building on the impact of Science and Technology on the sustainable development and prosperity of our Countries, the Republic of Moldova, as the Country-Coordinator of the BSEC Working Group on Cooperation in Science and Technology from July 1, 2024 for a period of two years, prepared the Action Plan of the Working Group, setting the following general objectives and priorities:
GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
To further promote regional collaboration between BSEC countries by encouraging a stronger commitment and cooperation to address the challenges that we are facing such as: climate change and environmental degradation, including preservation of the Black Sea marine environment including its unique biodiversity; food security and sustainable agriculture; growing energy needs and the necessity to transition to green clean energy; social inequality and access to education, etc.
In order to address the challenges, BSEC countries should engage in a closer cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation, including in practical terms, to formulate and implement regional research projects and to exchange good practices and experiences, including a stronger cooperation with other regional networks and capacity-building.
PRIORITIES OF THE CURRENT TERM
Based on Goal 11 of the BSEC Economic Agenda “Towards a Sustainable future of the wider Black Sea area” the Working Group intends to focus on the following priorities:
- To foster and strengthen regional cooperation in BSEC Region on Science, Technology and Innovation
- To promote internationalization of research in BSEC region by developing mobility schemes for researchers, including participation in scientific events and study visits, etc
- To develop cooperation in Smart Specialization areas between BSEC countries
- To promote of science, technology and innovation amongst youth in BSEC countries
- To develop sustainable innovation system in BSEC region by fostering knowledge and technology transfer between BSEC countries.
