Since the Working Group on Harmonization and Exchange of Statistical Data and Economic Information has no Country Coordinator, the BSEC PERMIS temporarily performs this function.
The key priorities for the activities in the field of Harmonization and Exchange of Economic and Social Statistical Data and Information are defined by Goal 13: “Harmonization and Exchange of Economic and Social Statistical Data and Information” of the “BSEC Economic Agenda Towards and Enhanced BSEC Partnership”, adopted in 2012.
The main activities are carried out by the BSEC Working Group on Harmonization and Exchange of Economic and Social Statistical Data and Information, established in 1992, with the aim to establish a system of exchange of statistical data and economic information, to harmonize the statistical methods and definitions, utilize international classifications, ensure data compatibility and create the basis for a common economic language in all activities of the BSEC Member States.
The BSEC Member States agreed initially to establish within the State Institute of Statistics of Turkey, the BSEC Coordination Centre for the Exchange of Statistical Data and Economic Information.
The Meeting of the BSEC Ministers in charge of Economy, held in Yalta on 23 May 2013, adopted a Joint Declaration, calling upon the Member States to consider possibilities for reactivating and strengthening the work of the BSEC Coordination Centre for the Exchange of Statistical Data and Economic Information.
A Meeting of the Heads of Statistical Offices of the BSEC Member States was held on 23 June 2016, in Moscow, where they adopted a Joint Statement.
Although active cooperation was suspended during the last few years, there is a need to reinvigorate the functioning of the Working Group, in order to streamline the process of statistical information exchange and strengthen cooperation in the field.
